❓Question of the Month

🚀 Ready Set FAIL! about to launch

After months of writing and editing, my latest book (#7!) is about to launch at the end of this month. The book, titled Ready, Set,

FAIL!, is all about the science behind risk-taking and failure and why we need to embed more of it in our day to day teaching and learning. The book is full of stories of my own failures (it could have been many books) as well as strategies and activities for ways to embrace risk-taking in your own classroom or professional learning environment. If you are interested in an advance autographed copy, feel free to fill out this form and I'll send you a copy in the next few weeks!

🦋 A New Social Network for K12 Leaders

Over the course of the pandemic, educators have become more isolated than ever it seems. The lack of collaborative spaces (in-person) have diminished while the pressure on K12 has increased. A few months ago, I met with a group of like-minded educational leaders to discuss ideas for how we could build an authentic social network to help connect teachers, staff, and administrators. Rather than look at existing social media platforms, we decided to start building our own.

As of November, we have been beta testing our new platform called K12Leaders.com. This platform is a professional network designed specifically to magnify the leadership potential of everyone involved in K12 education through the sustainable development of community, content, and learning opportunities.

Educators from any school or district are welcome to join freely and to support their K12 colleagues through general discussion, specific working groups, or more involved articles, blogs and research. This platform is still growing and those on early have a chance to impact how it can be built to best serve those of us in the education field.

I'm inviting each of my subscribers to get an early look at the beta of this platform TODAY. Click here to sign-up using your Google account, Facebook, LinkedIN or your email to get started.

🖲 AR Now Available for Chromebooks!

I've had the honor to work as an advisor for an augmented reality (AR) company based out of Australia called EyeJack. Over the past couple of months, I've been working with them to help make their platform more user-friendly to schools and device agnostic. To date, I've never found an AR platform that can work on Chrome so I tasked them with adapting their creator studio and making it achievable on Chromebooks. If you get a sec, sign-up and check out all the things they've built over at EyeJackEDU. I think this will be a real game changer in terms of ways for students to express themselves creatively through augmented reality on any device.

🧮 FREE Math platform for Texas Schools

Just a quick note here to let K-8 educators know that the engaging program STMath is now free for all Texas schools and for all at-home parents. The folks the Mind Research Institute have really done an amazing job helping kids learn the fundamentals of math in a variety of interactive ways. The state of Texas is now providing STMath to all schools for free for the next several years. If you are a teacher looking for some additional math resources, you can't go wrong with their platform. I even used it with my own kids as a supplement for their at-home learning. Their back-end learning analytics are extremely helpful and can truly create a personalized learning journey for each student.

🎭 Meme of the Month

I had to honor the late, great Betty White this month. This meme speaks the truth. Cheers Betty!

🎡 Conferences are Back! Sort of...

I got to be a keynote speaker at both the NYSCATE and VSTE conferences this past November and December. Both conferences worked diligently on putting protocols in place to keep people healthy and safe with the virus at somewhat of a lull at the time. I can tell you that personally I didn't realize how much I missed being around people until these amazing events. I wrote a blog post a month after the pandemic started called "I Miss the Crowds". I just recently reread it and much of it still rings true today. I miss the laughs and hugs and high fives.

I'm hopeful that I'll see many of you at a future event this spring. If you are attending FETC, TCEA, or DLAC in the next couple of months, please reach out to me so we can connect, even if just to share a smile and a fist bump.

❓Question of the Month

I'm not big into resolutions, but I am a fan of having a yearly mantra. So my question this month is what is your "Word to live by" this year? My word in 2020 was "Pivot" (which I've now over-used) and in 2021 it was "Connect". Reply to this email with your word and I'll reveal to you my 2022 word.

Happy New Year to each of you and I hope to see you IN PERSON in 2022!
